Sous-titré "A soundtrack by Dr Dre", Compton n'est pas à proprement parler la bande originale du film "Straight Outta Compton". Il est avant tout un portrait du ghetto, gangrené par la drogue, et la violence des gangs. A cet égard, la star du disque est moins Dre que ce coin déglingué de Los Angeles où il est né et a grandi. Comme d'habitude, il n'est d'ailleurs que l'un des nombreux intervenants de son propre album: au milieu de nouvelles têtes (King Mez, Justus et Anderson. Paak) et des disparus (feu Easy E), les habitués sont de la revue (Eminem, The Game, Ice Cube...) pour un disque qui épate par son assurance et sa consistance. (source: http://focus.levif.be)
