Une création typique du producteur Hal Willner qui s'est fait une spécialité de spectacles ou albums hommages rassemblant tout un gotha d'artistes d'horizons musicaux différents autour d'univers aussi variés que ceux de Charlie Mingus, Walt Disney, Nino Rota ou Thelonius Monk. C'est ainsi qu'au détour de cette galette honorant Kurt Weil on retrouve Todd Rundgren, Marianne Faithfull, John Zorn, Aaron Neville ou encore Lou Reed et Tom Waits. A noter que 10 ans plus tard, Willner récidiva avec un nouvel hommage à Kurt Weil rassemblant d'autres artistes. Si le résultat semble musicalement un peu trop sage par rapport à ce qu'on aurait pu en attendre, on s'amusera de la couverture et de ses pictogrammes représentant Tom Waits en côte de boeuf, John Zorn en décoration militaire ou Marianne Faithfull en chaussure à talon !
